Photomontage

An exhibition record spanning portrait montage, digital art and surreal collage.

Historical Artwork

The dated exhibition record

Photomontage appears repeatedly in Steven Ochs’s archived artist CV. The record begins with Photomontage Portraits at Trapeze in Seattle in 2001, then names Photomontage at Magidson Gallery in Aspen in 2004, Photomontages at Blue Leaf Gallery in Dublin in 2006, and Photomontages Surreal at Art Elements in Newberg in 2010.

The practice continued in Montajes in Buenos Aires and digital-art exhibitions in Madrid and Caracas in 2002, followed by Arte Digital in Maracaibo in 2003. Portraits, objects and landscapes became material for compositions that shift familiar subjects into unexpected relationships.

  1. 2001 · Photomontage Portraits — Trapeze, Seattle, Washington
  2. 2004 · Photomontage — Magidson Gallery, Aspen, Colorado
  3. 2006 · Photomontages — Blue Leaf Gallery, Dublin, Ireland
  4. 2010 · Photomontages Surreal — Art Elements, Newberg, Oregon

From montage to layered art

Later Stereo Layering combines photomontage with artificial intelligence and physical layers to create an illusion of depth in person. SteamPotVille is a separate illustrated story whose 2010 archive preserves digital collage images. Those later projects show how collage continued in his practice after the early exhibitions.

The complete History page retains all dated CV entries, including additional digital-art and Surreal Montages listings.

Up Here From Down There · 2001

Steven’s first full photomontage series was completed in Mérida, Venezuela, in 2001, while he was living and teaching English there.

The historical gallery brings together Steven’s selected portfolio images, from surreal landscapes and portrait collages to object compositions, drawings and installation photographs.
